Rental

You must be 18 or older to book a trip in the US. We apply all requirements based on your age at the time you book your trip and not the age you’ll be when the trip takes place. 

Depending on the type of vehicle, you may have to meet additional age requirements.  

• 21 and older can book a vehicle with a total market value of more than $20k
• 25 and older can book a Deluxe Class vehicle
• 30 and older can book a Super Deluxe Class, classic, or specialty vehicle

Depending on your age, you may have to pay a young driver fee or purchase a protection plan.  Neither Turo nor your host can waive a young driver fee. Young driver fees can’t be refunded once you’ve completed their trip.   

• Ages 18–20 must pay a minimum young driver fee of $50/day 
• Ages 18–21 must purchase the Minimum or Standard protection plan
• Ages 21–24 must pay a minimum young driver fee of $30/day 

When you book your first trip, we’ll ask for your driver’s license information and expiration date. Before you begin each trip, your host will confirm your license. To pick up your vehicle, you must present your host with a license type that Turo accepts. 

Permanent license

• Permanent valid license that allows full driving privileges; this includes driver’s licenses issued outside of the US

Note: A valid license is one that’s not expired, suspended, or revoked

Temporary license (aka temporary driving permit)

A temporary license is a paper document that allows you to legally drive for a defined period while you wait for your license to be issued or arrive in the mail. Your temporary license must be valid at the start and through the end of the trip.

• Temporary license with your photo on it; OR 
• Temporary license with no photo and another government ID with photo; your first and last name and date of birth must match exactly on both documents 

• License that’s expired, has been altered, is conditional, probational, provisional, or restricted. 
• Learner’s permit/instruction permit

We may ask for additional photos and information and/or may check your personal and/or business credit report, auto insurance score, and criminal background to verify your account. When you create an account, you give written instructions and permission in line with the Fair Credit Reporting Act or similar laws to obtain this information. If you enter the same information (e.g, email address, driver’s license number, etc), as another Turo user, you won’t be able to book. 

Turo has the right to decline your trip request and remove you from the platform because of your criminal background, driving record, or any other reason..

We encourage all renters to have insurance, through your partner app, for more information text us .

Make sure you are in a safe location, Roadside is Free through us once within 25 miles from pick up, but reach out to your provider or partner App
